Reading for Pleasure
At Leek First School, we value reading for pleasure highly and work hard as a school to nurture the children’s love for books. We develop and promote reading for pleasure by providing the children and their families with opportunities to experience and discuss a wide variety of texts, vocabulary and authors throughout the curriculum and beyond the classroom.
We have a well organised and resourced school library that is open to all the children and used on a daily basis. We also have dedicated librarians from Y2, 3 and 4 who not only help to keep it tidy, but run weekly reading groups for the Year 1 and Reception children.
Throughout the year, we also hold events and competitions to celebrate and promote our love for books.
